Ballyconra 2, Boundary Ditches and Agricultural Furrows

Ballyconra 3, Possible relict field system

Ballyconra 4, Boundary Ditches and Agricultural Furrows

The site of Ballyconra 2 consisted of two linear ditches together with agricultural furrows.

Ballyconra 3 consisted of two linear boundaries together with agricultural furrows. An isolated feature resembling a kiln in plan was located in the northeast of the cutting centre.

Ballyconra 4 consisted of an east–west orientated ditch, agricultural furrows and a second linear ditch orientated north–south.

The three sites evidenced an earlier pattern of cultivation and field division. The linear ditches uncovered at all three sites were interpreted as field boundaries. These suggest an earlier, relict field system that followed a slightly different pattern to the current layout, which may reflect late medieval settlements in the area.
