Senior Cultural Heritage Consultant
Archaeological Management Solutions (AMS) is seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Cultural Heritage Consultant to join our EIA Team. It is intended to appoint the successful candidate(s) in mid-June 2026.
Role
Contribute and lead on cultural heritage activities including undertaking a wide range of historic environment projects; providing informed, expert advice to clients and colleagues in relation to potential heritage constraints and opportunities; and input into design proposals/option selection.
Organise and maintain programme of completion, liaising with client and AMS senior management. Preparation of robust heritage documents which may be used to support planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), including desk-based assessments (DBAs), screening reports and scoping documents, cultural heritage impact assessments to an exceptionally high standard. Maintain records, timesheets, and timescales to ensure projects are delivered on time.

Main Duties
- Ensuring that all project tracking systems are updated and maintained, and that all follow-on details relating to archaeological licensing are kept up to date with the Excavations Team at AMS;
- Preparing DBAs, EIA screening and scoping reports, constraints studies, option selection reports and the Cultural Heritage chapters of EIA Reports (EIARs);
- Assessing the impacts of proposed developments, including major infrastructure schemes such as road, rail, greenway and pipeline schemes, on Cultural Heritage (archaeology, architectural/built heritage, portable heritage and intangible heritage);
- Undertaking archaeological surveys including site inspections and walkover surveys to identify and assess archaeological and architectural/built heritage assets;
- Carrying out significance assessments of Cultural Heritage assets and likely impacts in line with published guidelines and best practice;
- Undertaking comparative option assessments and EIAs for road schemes and other infrastructural developments using published TII and EPA guidelines;
- Attending Oral Hearings as Cultural Heritage Expert Witness;
- Consulting with statutory and local authorities and liaising with clients, design teams, contractors, other specialists and local communities as required;
- Compiling and authoring Conservation Management Plans and plans relating to World Heritage Properties as required;
- Undertaking and acting as AMS lead on community-based heritage projects as required.
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge of archaeology and cultural heritage
- Excellent knowledge of EIAR methodologies and assessment procedures
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office Word & Excel – minimum; familiarity with Gantt charts and QGIS important)
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent timekeeping
- Works independently/in a team
- Technical/specialist knowledge
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in Cultural Heritage EIA in Ireland/UK
- Experience in planning
- Degree in archaeology, architectural heritage/conservation, or other relevant discipline
- Driver’s licence
