Post-Excavation Technician

This is an excellent opportunity to further your career in archaeological post-excavation services. If you are already working at a Supervisor level or are thinking of progressing your career in this field, this post could be for you. This role will entail working closely with and supporting our Project Managers in the delivery of our post-excavation programme and a willingness to take on varied duties in line with our post-excavation programmes.

The Role

Based in our Head Office in Kilrush Co Clare, you will work with the AMS post-excavation team and Archaeological Project Managers across our network of offices.

  • Salary range (€31,200 – €34,320 – depending on experience)
  • 12-month contract, with possibility of extension

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the PX team in delivering the PX processing programme.
  • Assist in finds and environmental processing as outlined in AMS processing procedure documents and as instructed by and under the supervision of the PX Supervisor, including:
    • sample flotation
    • retent sorting
    • finds and sample washing
    • finds marking
    • bagging and boxing, and
    • data entry.
  • Help maintain the PX facilities and deliver/collect assemblages to/from external specialists and to repositories.
  • Maintain open communication with the PX Supervisor and Manager regarding processing status.

  • A graduate in archaeology or a related discipline
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good inter-personal skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels
  • Experience in commercial fieldwork
  • Experience in environmental (tank) and finds processing
  • Experience in post-excavation data management
  • A full Irish driving licence
  • Desirable: Experience in environmental (tank) and finds processing
